Obadiah envisions Israelite exiles returning from distant places—Halah and Sepharad in the north and east, and Zarephath in Phoenicia—to repossess territories across Canaan, including the Negeb, Shephelah, Philistia, Gilead, Samaria, and Edom. Jerusalem and Mount Zion stand at the center of restored covenant rule, while Mount Esau represents Edom, Israel’s judged rival.
