Massah and Meribah were wilderness sites, traditionally associated with Israel’s testing of God and quarreling over water after the exodus (Exodus 17; Numbers 20). Though named later in Psalm 95, they frame the call to worship by warning God’s people not to harden their hearts before their Maker.
