Philadelphia, in western Asia Minor (modern Turkey), was one of the seven churches addressed by Christ, who identifies himself as the holy Davidic ruler holding “the key of David.” Jerusalem, Sardis, and Laodicea appear in the surrounding messages, locating Philadelphia within this regional pastoral address and its promises to faithful believers.
