Zion, originally the hill of Jerusalem associated with David’s city and later the temple, became a biblical name for Jerusalem and God’s covenant people. In Romans 11, Paul cites the Deliverer coming from Zion to stress God’s faithful saving purpose for Israel, consistent with his irrevocable calling.
