What does the Bible say about bad thoughts?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible teaches that sinful thoughts arise from the fallen heart, yet God calls his people to repent, seek forgiveness in Christ, and renew their minds by his Word and Spirit. Jesus shows that inward lust and evil intentions are morally serious, not merely outward acts, in Matthew 5:28 and Matthew 9:4. Yet believers need not despair: 1 John 1:9 promises cleansing to those who confess their sins. Romans 12:2 and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 call Christians to reject worldly patterns and bring thoughts captive to Christ. By meditating on God’s Word, as Joshua 1:8 and Psalms 119:15 teach, and dwelling on what is true and pure, as Philippians 4:8 says, believers grow in holy thinking.
