What does the Bible say about battle-ax?

The Bible uses the battle-ax as a picture of God’s sovereign power to judge evil and accomplish His righteous purposes through human instruments. In Jeremiah 51:20, the Lord calls Babylon His “battle-axe and weapons of war,” saying that through it He shattered nations and destroyed kingdoms. Yet Babylon was not morally innocent; the same chapter declares that God would judge it for its pride, violence, and cruelty. This teaches that God governs even the actions of earthly rulers and armies, while holding them accountable for their sin. Believers therefore trust the Lord’s just rule, reject personal vengeance, and await His final judgment.
