What does the Bible say about blindness?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible teaches that spiritual blindness is humanity’s fallen inability to see God’s truth rightly apart from His gracious illumination, yet Christ brings His people into light. Those who persist in hatred walk in darkness and do not know where they are going, as 1 John 2:11 warns. Jesus described some hearers as seeing without perceiving and called blind guides dangerous leaders in Matthew 13:13-16 and Matthew 15:14. 2 Corinthians 4:4 says the god of this world blinds unbelieving minds, but the gospel reveals Christ’s glory. Ephesians 5:8 calls believers, once darkness, to walk as children of light. Even self-satisfied churches need Christ to expose their need and give true sight, as Revelation 3:17 teaches.
