What does the Bible say about charitableness?

The Bible teaches that God’s people should show charitable love by forgiving freely, refusing harsh judgment, seeking reconciliation, and covering offenses with mercy. Proverbs 10:12 and Proverbs 17:9 commend love that does not stir up or repeat another’s wrongs. Jesus calls believers to pursue peace before worship in Matthew 5:23-24 and to forgive others as those forgiven by their heavenly Father in Matthew 6:14. Matthew 7:1-5 and Luke 6:36-42 require humble self-examination rather than hypocritical criticism. In Matthew 18:21-35, Christ grounds repeated forgiveness in God’s immeasurable mercy toward us. Yet Luke 17:3-4 joins forgiveness with loving correction when sin is present.
