The Bible condemns neglect of family responsibilities and calls fathers to faithful, loving, self-controlled care for their children and household. First Timothy 5:8 strongly warns against refusing to provide for one’s own family. Proverbs repeatedly commends wise parental instruction and correction, teaching that a child’s upbringing deeply matters (Proverbs 22:6; 23:13-14). Fathers should not merely supply material needs, but model wisdom, joy, and godliness, for a wise child brings gladness while folly brings grief (Proverbs 10:1). Galatians 5:16-26 calls all believers to reject selfish fleshly desires and bear the Spirit’s fruit. Yet Scripture also offers hope: through Christ’s advocacy and cleansing, repentant fathers can receive forgiveness and pursue restored faithfulness (1 John 2:1-29).
