What does the Bible say about edification?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible teaches that believers are to build one another up in truth, love, and maturity, so that Christ's church grows into faithful unity under Him. Christ gives pastors and teachers to equip the saints for ministry and to strengthen the body toward mature faith, as Ephesians 4:11-16 explains. Each member has a needed part, contributing to the church's growth in love. Spiritual gifts, especially speech, should aim at edification rather than self-display, according to 1 Corinthians 14:3-5, 12. Christian authority likewise exists not to dominate but to build up God's people, as Paul says in 2 Corinthians 10:8 and 13:10. Knowledge without love can inflate, but love builds up (1 Corinthians 8:1).
