What does the Bible say about fear?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible teaches that believers need not be ruled by fear, because the sovereign and faithful God is with them, cares for them, and has given them strength in Christ. Isaiah 41:10 and Joshua 1:9 call God’s people to courage on the basis of his presence and help. Though fear is a real human struggle, Psalms 34:4 and 56:3-4 model bringing it honestly to God and choosing trust in his word. In Christ, God gives not a spirit of fear but power, love, and self-control, as 2 Timothy 1:7 declares. Perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18), and prayerful dependence brings God’s peace (Philippians 4:6-7).
