What does the Bible say about grief?

The Bible teaches that God meets His people in grief with compassion, sustains them by His grace, and promises that sorrow will not have the final word. Jesus blesses those who mourn, assuring them of comfort (Matthew 5:4), and the Psalms testify that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and heals their wounds (Psalms 34:18; 147:3). Believers may cast every burden on God because He cares for them (1 Peter 5:7) and come to Christ for rest (Matthew 11:28-30). Though present suffering is real, it is not comparable to the coming glory, when God will wipe away every tear (Romans 8:18; Revelation 21:4).
