The Bible uses “habergeon” to describe the reinforced opening of the high priest’s robe, teaching that God’s appointed worship was to be carried out with care, reverence, and durable obedience. In Exodus 28:32, the robe’s neck opening was to be woven with a binding around it, like the opening of a coat of mail, so that it would not tear. Exodus 39:23 records the faithful completion of this instruction. Though the term reflects ancient clothing and armor imagery, the larger lesson is that God provides what is needed for those who serve before Him.
