What does the Bible say about holiness?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible teaches that holiness is God’s own purity and the gracious calling of His redeemed people to belong to Him and reflect His character in faith and obedience. God commands His people, “Be holy,” because He is holy, as Leviticus 11:45 and 20:7 declare. In Christ, believers are set apart and clothed with new life, called to walk as children of light and offer themselves to God as living sacrifices (Ephesians 5:8; Colossians 3:12; Romans 12:1). Jesus sanctifies His church through His Word and saving work (John 17:17; Ephesians 5:25-27). Though holiness grows imperfectly in this life, Christ’s sinless example and priestly perfection sustain believers as they pursue conformity to Him (Hebrews 7:26; 1 Peter 2:21-22).
