The Bible teaches that the Holy Ghost, or Holy Spirit, is God’s personal presence with and within His people, applying Christ’s saving work and leading believers in truth and holiness. Jesus promises in John 14:26 and John 16:13 that the Spirit teaches, reminds, and guides His disciples. At Pentecost, the risen Christ poured out the Spirit to empower witness and call sinners to repentance and faith, as Acts 1:8 and Acts 2:38 show. The Spirit gives new birth and renewal according to God’s mercy, Titus 3:5, helps believers in weakness and prayer, Romans 8:26-27, and dwells in the church as God’s holy temple, 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. Therefore believers should not grieve the Spirit, Ephesians 4:30.
