What does the Bible say about identity?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible teaches that our truest identity is not self-made but received from God as his image-bearers and, by grace through faith, his beloved children in Christ. Genesis 1:27 grounds human dignity in creation, while John 1:12 and 2 Corinthians 5:17 proclaim that believers are adopted into God’s family and made new. God knew and purposed his people before their birth, as Jeremiah 1:5 shows, and prepared good works for them in Ephesians 2:10. United to Christ, believers can say with Galatians 2:20 that Christ lives in them. The church is also a chosen people and Christ’s body, called to belong to one another and display God’s praise.
