The Bible condemns lying as an evil that reflects the devil’s character, destroys trust, and brings God’s righteous judgment, while calling His people to truthfulness and repentance. Jesus says that Satan is the father of lies in John 8:44, and Proverbs repeatedly warns that false witnesses and deceitful speech will not endure or escape punishment. Revelation 21:8 soberly includes liars among those facing final judgment. Yet the gospel offers mercy: 1 John 1:9 promises that those who confess their sins are forgiven and cleansed through Christ. Christians therefore should reject gossip, slander, and revenge, speak truth in love, and entrust justice to God.
