The Bible teaches that God truly works miracles according to his sovereign wisdom, chiefly to reveal and confirm his saving truth in Christ, while calling believers to trust his Word rather than demand signs. Hebrews 2:4 and Mark 16:20 describe signs accompanying the apostolic proclamation, and John 20:30-31 explains that Jesus' signs were recorded so that we might believe and have life in his name. God may still answer prayer in extraordinary ways, yet the completed revelation of Scripture is sufficient, and the Spirit leads God's people in harmony with it (John 16:13; Hebrews 4:12). Christ's greatest promised work is salvation and the final removal of sorrow and death (Revelation 21:4).
