The Bible teaches that redemption is God’s gracious act of rescuing His people from bondage, guilt, and death at the cost of a substitute, ultimately through Jesus Christ. In Israel’s law, redemption restored needy relatives, homes, and inherited land, displaying God’s concern for His covenant people (Leviticus 25:25-34). Payments for vowed persons and firstborn also showed that life belongs to the Lord and requires a ransom (Leviticus 27:2-13; Numbers 3:46-51).
