What does the Bible say about towers?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible presents towers as useful structures for defense, watchfulness, and cultivation, yet also as warnings against human pride and false security apart from God. At Babel, people sought to make a name for themselves by building a tower, and God humbled their self-exalting ambition (Genesis 11:4). Towers protected cities, as at Thebez, and strengthened Judah under faithful kings such as Asa, Uzziah, and Jotham (Judges 9:51; 2 Chronicles 14:7; 26:9-10; 27:4). Isaiah also uses a vineyard tower to picture God’s careful provision for His people (Isaiah 5:2), echoed in Jesus’ parable (Matthew 21:33). Yet even fortified towers stand under God’s judgment when they symbolize pride (Isaiah 2:15).
