The Bible teaches that your soul belongs to God, is of immeasurable worth, and must be devoted to him in faith, love, and obedience. God formed humanity as living creatures, and at death the spirit returns to the God who gave it (Genesis 2:7; Ecclesiastes 12:7). Each person is accountable before him, for the soul that sins shall die, yet God calls sinners to turn and live (Ezekiel 18:4, 20). Jesus warns that gaining the world cannot compensate for losing one’s soul, and urges reverent fear of God above human threats (Matthew 10:28; Matthew 16:26). The Lord restores his people’s souls and commands wholehearted love for him (Psalms 23:3; Matthew 22:37).
