The Bible teaches that chastisement is God’s holy and fatherly discipline, by which He humbles sin, calls His people to repentance, and trains them to walk in obedient faith. Leviticus 26:28 warns that persistent rebellion brings severe covenant judgment, while Deuteronomy 11:2 calls Israel to remember the Lord’s discipline and mighty acts. God’s correction does not cancel His covenant mercy: in 2 Samuel 7:14-15, He promises to discipline David’s son while not taking away His steadfast love. Solomon likewise prays that afflicted people would confess, turn, and receive forgiveness in 2 Chronicles 6:24-31. Job 5:17 calls blessed the one whom God reproves, and Job 33:19 shows that suffering may awaken sinners to their need for God.
