The Bible teaches that God’s commandments reveal his holy will, call his people to wholehearted love and obedience, expose our sin, and guide believers in grateful living through faith in Christ. In Exodus 20:3-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21, the Ten Commandments set forth devotion to God and love for neighbor, beginning with the God who redeemed his people. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 calls for these words to be treasured in the heart and diligently taught in the home. Israel was to remember and obey them continually, as Exodus 13:8-10 and Deuteronomy 11:18-21 show. Deuteronomy 32:46-47 presents God’s word not as empty instruction but as life for his people.
