What does the Bible say about fetters?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible presents fetters as instruments of bondage, judgment, humiliation, and human helplessness, while showing that God remains sovereign over those who are bound. In 2 Chronicles 33:11 and 36:6, foreign fetters mark the Lord's righteous judgment upon unfaithful kings and nations. Judges 16:21 and 2 Kings 25:7 likewise portray the terrible consequences of sin, pride, and rebellion. Yet Mark 5:4 shows that even strong chains cannot cure the deeper bondage of evil; only Christ has authority to free the captive. These passages call us to fear sin, submit humbly to God's correction, and trust the Savior who delivers His people from the bondage they cannot break themselves.
