The Bible teaches that high places were often centers of worship that became closely associated with idolatry, though they were sometimes used temporarily for worship before the temple was built. Solomon sacrificed at Gibeon in 1 Kings 3:4, yet the people’s use of high places reflected incomplete obedience to God’s appointed worship.
