The Bible teaches that immortality belongs inherently to God, while human beings are mortal yet may receive eternal life by God’s grace through Christ. Job 4:17-21 humbles us by showing human frailty, but Psalms 16:10-11 points beyond death to God’s preservation and the fullness of joy in his presence, ultimately fulfilled in Christ’s resurrection. Enoch’s fellowship with God in Genesis 5:24 and Elijah’s being taken up in 2 Kings 2:11 show God’s power over death. David’s hope in 2 Samuel 12:23 also reflects confidence that death does not end God’s covenant mercy. Therefore believers need not seek immortality apart from God, but trust the risen Lord, who grants everlasting life to his people.
