The Bible teaches that influence is powerful and should be exercised and received under the fear of God, for good or for harm. Believers are warned that bad company corrupts good character, while walking with the wise promotes wisdom (1 Corinthians 15:33; Proverbs 13:20). Christians are also called to be salt and light, letting their good works shine so that others glorify the Father (Matthew 5:13-16). Our conduct, gentleness, and readiness to explain our hope should commend Christ before unbelievers (1 Peter 2:12; 3:15-16). Because even a little leaven can spread, we must guard against corrupting error and encourage one another toward faithful growth (Galatians 5:7-9; Proverbs 27:17).
