What does the Bible say about love of god?

The Bible teaches that God’s love is holy, free, and saving, shown supremely in giving his Son for undeserving sinners and calling them into life with him. John 3:16 and Romans 5:8 declare that God loved the world and demonstrated that love through Christ’s death for us while we were still sinners. Believers love because God first loved them, as 1 John 4:19 says, and this new love flows from knowing the God who is love. In Christ, Christians are adopted as God’s children and live by faith in the Son who loved them and gave himself for them.
