What does the Bible say about marrying an unsaved person?

The Bible teaches that Christians should seek marriage only with a fellow believer, while faithfully honoring an existing marriage to an unbelieving spouse if that spouse is willing to remain. In 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, believers are warned not to be unequally yoked with unbelief, a principle that rightly guides the choice of a spouse; 1 Corinthians 7:39 likewise says a widow is free to marry, “only in the Lord.” Yet 1 Corinthians 7:10-17 teaches that a Christian already married to an unbeliever should not seek divorce merely because of the spouse’s unbelief, but should pursue peace, holiness, and loving witness. If the unbelieving spouse departs, the believer is not enslaved, for God has called us to peace.
