The Bible presents the mercy seat as the holy covering of the ark where God revealed his presence and received atoning blood, pointing to his mercy toward sinners through sacrifice. In Exodus 25:17-22, it was fashioned of pure gold beneath the cherubim, and God promised to speak with Moses from above it. It stood in the Most Holy Place, as Exodus 26:34 and 30:6 show, and was central to Israel's tabernacle worship.
