What does the Bible say about midianites?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible presents the Midianites as descendants of Abraham who at times showed kindness to God’s people but also became enemies whose rebellion brought divine judgment. Genesis 25:1-2 and 1 Chronicles 1:32 trace them through Abraham and Keturah. Moses found refuge in Midian, married into Jethro’s family, and received Jethro’s joyful confession that the Lord is greater than all gods (Exodus 2:15-16; 3:1; 18:9-12). Yet in Numbers 22:1-4, Midian joined Moab in fearing and opposing Israel, and Numbers 31:8 records judgment on Midian’s leaders. Their history displays both God’s common grace among the nations and His holy defense of His covenant people.
