What does the Bible say about oppression?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible condemns oppression as sin and calls his people to reflect his justice, mercy, and special care for the weak. The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed (Psalm 9:9), near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and the one who gives justice to the oppressed and food to the hungry (Psalm 146:7). He commands his people to seek justice, correct oppression, and defend the vulnerable (Isaiah 1:17; Zechariah 7:10). Proverbs warns that exploiting the poor insults their Maker (Proverbs 14:31). Christ came proclaiming good news and liberty to the afflicted and captive (Luke 4:18-19), fulfilling God's righteous and compassionate purpose.
