What does the Bible say about raising up leaders?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible teaches that God raises up and equips godly leaders to serve his people, preserve sound doctrine, and build up the church under Christ's authority. Moses was instructed to appoint able, trustworthy men, and Israel was called to choose wise and respected leaders (Exodus 18:21; Deuteronomy 1:13). Churches likewise should recognize tested, faithful servants who can teach others and meet the moral and doctrinal qualifications of elders (2 Timothy 2:2; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Timothy 3:1-7). God himself gives shepherds and teachers for the maturity of his people (Jeremiah 3:15; Ephesians 4:11-13), while the church prayerfully appoints qualified leaders (Acts 6:3; Acts 14:23).

[6] not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.
