What does the Bible say about reproof?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible teaches that reproof, given and received in humility and love, is a gracious means by which God turns His people from sin and leads them in wisdom and life. Leviticus 19:17 calls believers to address a neighbor’s sin rather than harbor hatred in the heart. Psalms 141:5 welcomes the righteous person’s correction as kindness. Proverbs repeatedly contrasts the wise, who love instruction and heed rebuke, with scoffers and fools, who resent it and wander toward ruin (Proverbs 9:7-8; 10:17; 12:1; 13:18; 15:5, 10, 12). Faithful correction must not be harsh or self-righteous, but shaped by truth, patience, and brotherly love, trusting God to use it for repentance and growth.
