What does the Bible say about sanhedrin?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible presents the Sanhedrin as Israel's highest Jewish council, yet shows that human religious authority remains accountable to God's justice and can grievously oppose his truth. Jesus warned in Matthew 5:22 that the council possessed serious judicial authority, but he also exposed the heart sins that deserve God's judgment. At daybreak, the council examined Jesus and condemned him for confessing that he is the Christ, the Son of Man, as recorded in Luke 22:66 and Mark 14:64. Mark 15:1 shows them delivering him to Pilate. Their unjust verdict fulfilled God's redemptive purpose, for Christ willingly suffered to save his people.
