What does the Bible say about work hard?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible commends diligent, faithful labor as a way to honor God, serve others, and wisely steward the strength and opportunities he gives. Proverbs repeatedly contrasts careful planning and steady work with laziness, warning that idleness leads to poverty while diligence brings provision and responsibility. Colossians 3:23 calls believers to work wholeheartedly as for the Lord, not merely for human approval. Ecclesiastes 9:10 likewise urges wholehearted effort in the tasks at hand. Scripture also joins labor to loving care for one’s household, as 1 Timothy 5:8 teaches. Yet Christians work not to earn God’s favor, but gratefully, trusting that salvation is by grace and that God blesses faithful service according to his wise purposes.
