What does the Bible say about alliance and society with the enemies of god?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible warns God’s people not to form alliances or intimate partnerships that draw them into idolatry, compromise, or disobedience, but to remain wholly devoted to the Lord. In Exodus 23:32 and 34:12, Israel is forbidden to make covenants with the Canaanite nations because their worship would become a spiritual snare. Deuteronomy 7:2-3 likewise prohibits intermarriage where it would turn hearts from God, while Deuteronomy 13:6-8 commands steadfast refusal even when loved ones entice believers toward false gods. Joshua 23:6-7, Judges 2:2, and Ezra 9:12 show the serious consequences of ignoring this command. Christians should therefore pursue peace and neighbor-love toward all, yet guard their allegiance to Christ above every social bond.
