What does the Bible say about beds?
Bible Topic · WEB
The Bible presents beds as ordinary provisions for rest, hospitality, sickness, sorrow, and sometimes sinful self-indulgence, all under God’s providence. Job 7:13 and Psalm 6:6 show that a bed may become a place of anguish, prayer, and tears, reminding us to bring our distress to the Lord. God also uses beds in scenes of care and mercy, as in the room prepared for Elisha in 2 Kings 4:10 and David’s concern for the afflicted Saul in 1 Samuel 19:15. Yet Amos 6:4 warns against luxurious ease that ignores God’s judgment and the needs of others. Whether resting, grieving, serving guests, or suffering illness, believers are called to receive God’s gifts gratefully and live watchfully before him.
