What does the Bible say about dreams?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible teaches that God has at times used dreams to reveal His purposes, yet dreams are not a trustworthy guide apart from His tested and sufficient Word. He spoke through dreams to Job and Daniel, and Numbers 12:6 recognizes dreams as one means by which God made Himself known to prophets. But Scripture also warns that dreams may be empty, deceptive, or false, as Ecclesiastes 5:3, Jeremiah 23:25-28, Jeremiah 29:8, and Deuteronomy 13:1-3 show. Even a dream accompanied by signs must be rejected if it leads people away from the Lord. Christians should therefore test every claimed revelation by Scripture and rest in God’s final saving revelation in Christ.
