The Bible teaches that the earth is God’s purposeful creation, upheld by his sovereign power, marred by human sin, and destined to display his glory. Genesis 1:6-7 portrays God ordering the world by his word, while Job 26:7 marvels that he hangs the earth on nothing. Psalm 104:5-9 praises the Lord for establishing its foundations and setting boundaries for the waters. Isaiah 45:18 declares that God formed the earth to be inhabited, not empty or purposeless. Yet Genesis 3:17-18 shows that Adam’s fall brought a curse upon the ground, producing toil and thorns. Even the earth’s apparent stability rests wholly on God, who can shake it, as Job 9:6 teaches.
