What does the Bible say about evil thoughts?

The Bible teaches that evil thoughts arise from the sinful human heart, yet God calls his people to resist them through faith, repentance, and the renewing work of his grace. Jesus says that sinful desires within are morally serious, for evil thoughts and adultery proceed from the heart (Matthew 5:28; Matthew 15:19). Believers are not left without help: God provides a way to endure temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13) and directs our minds toward what is true, honorable, pure, and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8). We overcome evil not by self-righteousness, but by doing good through the peace and new life secured in Christ (Romans 5:1-21; Romans 12:21).
