What does the Bible say about female pastors?

The Bible teaches that the pastoral office of elder or overseer is ordinarily entrusted to qualified men, while women are honored as vital disciples and teachers within the church. In 1 Timothy 2:11-12 and 1 Corinthians 14:34-35, Paul restricts women from exercising authoritative teaching over men in the gathered church. The qualifications for elders in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9 describe a man who leads his household faithfully and holds firmly to sound doctrine. Yet Titus 2:3-5 calls older women to teach younger women, and Scripture commends the many gifts, service, wisdom, and ministry of women in Christ's body.
