What does the Bible say about gold?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible presents gold as a valuable gift of God, yet one that must never rival him in glory, trust, or worship. Job 28:1, 6 portrays gold as hidden in creation and obtained through human labor, while Genesis 2:11 notes the goodness of the land’s gold. Kings used it for wealth and splendor, as in 1 Kings 9:28 and Psalms 45:9, and the temple was adorned with it for God’s honor in 2 Chronicles 3:6. Yet Haggai 2:8 reminds us that all silver and gold belong to the Lord. Isaiah 60:6 and Psalms 72:15 picture the nations bringing gold in homage to God’s righteous king, ultimately fulfilled in Christ.
