What does the Bible say about humility?

Bible Topic · WEB

The Bible teaches that humility is a grace-filled posture of knowing our dependence on God, serving others, and giving Him all glory rather than exalting ourselves. Micah 6:8 calls God’s people to walk humbly with Him, while Isaiah 66:2 says He looks favorably on the contrite and lowly. Jesus, who is gentle and lowly in heart (Matthew 11:29), provided the supreme pattern: though eternally God, He took the form of a servant and humbled Himself unto death (Philippians 2:5-8). His washing of the disciples’ feet in John 13:14-15 shows that Christian leadership and love are expressed through willing service. God opposes pride but draws near to the humble, who boast only in the Lord.
