What does the Bible say about knowledge?

The Bible teaches that true knowledge is a gift from God, meant to lead us into wisdom, obedience, humility, and the fear of the Lord rather than pride or self-rule. In Genesis 2:9 and 2:17, human knowledge is bounded by God’s command, while Genesis 3:22 shows the tragic cost of seeking wisdom apart from trusting him. Proverbs 2 and Proverbs 3 portray knowledge as something the Lord gives and as a path of understanding, sound judgment, and peace. Solomon therefore asks for a discerning heart in 1 Kings 3:9, and Psalm 119:66 joins knowledge with good judgment and faith in God’s commandments. Biblical knowledge receives correction gladly, for Proverbs 12:1 warns that rejecting discipline is foolish.
