The Bible teaches that marriage is a good gift for this present life, but earthly marriages do not continue in the resurrection. Jesus says that those raised from the dead “neither marry nor are given in marriage,” because they are like the angels in this respect, no longer subject to death (Matthew 22:29-30; Mark 12:25). This corrects the Sadducees’ mistaken attempt to apply earthly marriage laws to the age to come (Matthew 22:23-30). Believers will not lose true love or joy, but will know fuller fellowship with God and all his redeemed people. Our deepest and lasting hope is not marriage in heaven, but life with Christ, whose blessings exceed all we can imagine (1 Corinthians 2:9).
