The Bible presents music as a God-given means for joyful, reverent worship, supporting the gathered praise of his people and celebrating his mighty works. In 1 Chronicles 15:22, skilled Levites were appointed to lead singing, while 1 Chronicles 25:7-8 shows that musical service involved both trained musicians and orderly participation. At moments of public worship and thanksgiving, instruments and voices accompanied sacrifices and praise, as in 2 Chronicles 29:27-28. Nehemiah 12:42 likewise describes singers rejoicing loudly at Jerusalem’s dedication. These passages encourage Christians to use music thankfully and fittingly in worship, not chiefly for display or entertainment, but to exalt the Lord, strengthen the congregation, and express holy joy before him.
